Article Idea: Personel Files

Though, we'd have to call it something slightly different as SJGames does something very similar with their Transhuman Space setting. The basic idea is to come up with a group of 3 to 8 characters usable as PCs or NPCs and fully stat them out with a short back story and relationship for each one. Each edition of the article would give a group of characters ready to play and one or two short adventures that the group might get involved in.

I plan on working something like this up on my own but I would love to work with others on it as well. Perhaps do it as a monthly project or a semi-regular article to go up on DC.

The article would go something like this:

Title
Group Roster (Name, 2 to 4 word character summary, point level)
Group Overview (2 to 4 paragraphs)
Character Entries
>Character Name; Character Summary; Point Level
>Bio/Backstory (Quarter to Full page)
>Stat Blocks (Attributes, Skills, Equipment)
>Personal Equipment/Item descriptions (If any)
>GM/Secret Information (Stuff only the GM and Player should know about the character, if any)
Group Equipment (Descriptions of Vehicles, Bases, or other Shared Gear that is owned by the Group if anything)
Adventure Ideas (2 to 4, half to full pages max -Or- 1 full longer adventure and 2 to 4 shorter paragraph adventure outlines)

I am going to start on my own as I said, but I'd like to share what ideas I'm currently brainstorming as possible themes for the first article.

Asteroid Prospectors
>The crew of a small mining/prospecting ship including stats for the ship itself working in the belt.
>Captain/Pilot, Ship's Engineer, Mining Foreman/Mine Engineer, Science Officer, Purser/Accountant
>Adventure: Artifact Strike - The party comes across an alien artifact buried deep in the heart of an asteroid.
>Adventure: Rescue? - The party comes across a distress beacon only to have a rogue infomorph enter their ship's computer and begin plotting for its own purposes.
>Adventure: Hypercorp Expedition - The party comes across a hypercorp expedition bound for trouble.

Scum Salvagers
>A small company of salvage operators working to glean a living out of the wreckage orbiting Earth. Includes stats for a small salvage barge.
>Captain; Pilot; Security Enforcer; Engineer; Salvage Hacker
>Adventure: Locked Box - An old satilite is more than it seems when the crew cracks it open they find a treasure trove, and trouble.
>Adventure: Mercy Mission - A scum barge has had a catastrophic misfire of its thrusters and is now in a declining orbit around Earth, the crew is called in to save the day.

Aphrodite Actions
>A group of Venusian troubleshooters working towards independence from the hypercorps
>Face/Negotiator; Security Operative; Infomorph Newshound Hacker; Wealthy Activist
>Adventure: Rescue Me - A well-known atavist has disappeared with rumors of kidnapping recently, when the group comes across a signal bearing the activist's signature out of an automated platform.

I'm also open to suggestions. These are meant to get the ball rolling for ideas.

Hmmmm... would you see this as some sort of "Template Package", essentially a group of pre-made archetypes that are designed to actually work together rather than the generic stuff in the book? Or would you rather this be fully realized characters that have all ideas ready for them (names, detailed history, etc)?

More of a template made to work together. The characters should be ready or nearly ready to be picked up an played but not so detailed as to be without room for modification or alteration to a player's playstyle. The idea is that the characters could be used for pregens in a pickup game or they could be used as starting points for more detailed characters. It is certainly the goal to give a package that can work together, but also the idea is to leave a good deal of room for alteration.

Sounds like a certainly useful concept, and definitely something I would like to assist in. In early stages of the project perhaps just get a list going of group concepts for people to pull from if they don't have ideas of their own right away?

I'm not against compiling a list, if you have more concepts please post them, but I would like to decide on a first article idea and get working on it in order to work out how things will be laid out and work. Also I think the fuller version would be more useful as content for the site. If we are to become a bigger site we have to have content.

Though please be sure I am happy for any help I can get, and am still in the brainstorming ideas phase anyway.

Oh yeah, sure! I'll post some random thoughts up here when I can think of them, and feel free to message me on chat or here on the wiki if you want anything more before your first "Establishing Post".

I'm totally in agreement that content is important so we can get this going right just as things are starting.

My idea was to be a group project with authors cooperating to create each article.

Thus both snagging, and working together on the same article is welcome. As is adding your own ideas for the list.
