General
Full Name: The First Autonomous Odoist Habitat
Structural type: OH1 is a cluster habitat, encompassing at least a dozen larger asteroids.
Location: Located in the Trojans, only 40,000km from Locus.
Size: The actual number of transhumans living in OH1 is unknown, but the space limitation is 10,000 people; with the closed ecosystem cap of support being just shy of 15,000.
Internal environment/habitat function
Founded 12 BF by the mythical 'Odo', the habitat is the first fully autonomous freehold of the Odoist movement. The habitat's ecosystem and life support are the most famous work of the 'free-water' approach to habitat engineering. It's a zero-g habitat, maintaining what is called 'central trunks' - huge organisms bioengineered from Earth's trees which act as 'hearts' of the system, branching their 'fingers' throughout the habitat's corridors. These 'fingers' are a cross between branches and root of Earth trees, used for everything from growing fruit to gathering the free floating liquids.
Unlike other zero-g habitats, the 'free-water' approach does not try to contain water/moisture loss and spillage. All free floating liquid is gathered by the network of fingers and 'blobs', zero-g adapted jellyfish which freely swim through the habitat. This results in an atmosphere highly saturated with moisture, and forming of 'bubble-ponds' throughout the habitat - and almost a 100% recycling of basically everything through the almost fully autonomous ecosystem. The habitat eco-engineers act as bonsai artists (on a much larger scale), creating new modifications of the trunks (for production of fruit, vegetables, oxygen, etc.) and direct and oversee the growth of fingers through new parts and freeways of the cluster.
The ecosystem is not limited to hydroponic or aeroponic farms but spans through the whole habitat.
Faction
The Odoist movement was based and developed from a late 20th century utopist novel, The Dispossessed, and took root and expanded exponentially from OH1. The founders, an anarchist-philosopher who took the name Odo and her partner - an ecosystem designer Ozren Ralić; created the habitat and its system as a cooperation of their philosophies. Ozren was the habitat engineer, giving birth to the 'free-water' ecosystem design school, while Odo was the social engineer tasked with creating a functional society.
OH1 is one of the center of eco-anarchist and strong preservationist currents, seeing transhumanity's presence in alien (or even their own original ecosystem on Earth) as violence, arguing that they have the ability to create their own habs and ecosystems and leave the planets intact from transhuman meddling (which proved to be disastrous in case of Earth).
The idea of private property is obsolete, but not in the fascist way of prohibiting private property, but the Odoists don't see a need for it. People can insist on outdated old economy models or private property, but that usually results in rep loss because of their primitive outlooks. The jobs regarding hab functionality (life support maintenance, habitat security, etc.) are the only ones regulated, and only through a lottery system maintained by the station's central AI. For example, certain number of people are needed to check newcomers for bio-weapons or something as threatening to whole hab security. The computer randomly picks as much people as the hab needs to function and they're asked the volunteer. They're not obligated to do so, but rejection to volunteer without a good explanation are frowned upon and usually result in rep loss (since the other Odoist see them as antisocial).
There's no hab security force or anything of the like, but antisocial behavior on a grander scale is not tolerated, usually resulting in a mob lynch and termination or expulsion for the fool stupid enough to kill/harm anyone. The volunteer lottery is used for immigration control (nothing except bio-weapons, seed AIs or something similarly dangerous are prohibited, and that too depends on the personal beliefs of the volunteer), asteroid mining and hab expansion. Usually, only the dullest or most dangerous jobs requires the AI to run a lottery; since people do what they're good at on their own (e. g. Odoist hackers maintain the local mesh, ecosystem designers deal with life support, local branches of eco-terrorist with security against hypercorp involvement etc.).
OH1, other than being a center of prominent names in hab ecosystem design, is also the haven of a number of eco-terrorist and Jovian Junta oriented anarchists. Attack on Mars planetside habs, Europa aquatic habs and Junta facilities have originated from local anarchists (to name the few).
Leadership and Members
Odo, the founder of the hab, was ego-assassinated just after the Fall by hypercorp hunters (due to her involvement in many inner system sabotages and organization of inner system anarchist cells). She was infected with an (in those days prototype) ego-hunter virus, which lay dormant until she made backups of her ego. Then it infected and corrupted the backups and the original in the morph. All her egos were lost except for a single gama-fork. The gama fork is still kept in OH1 mesh, as a sort of a local history monument. Ozren Ralić (her partner and co-founder of the habitat) retreated to the mesh and spent the last 8 years as an infomorph.
Ozren Ralić, a legendary name in ecosystem designer networks, despite still being alive, retreated from public Odoist networks and acts as a sort of a guardian to his deceased partner's gama-fork. He still holds VR lectures biannually, which are visited by hundreds of transhumans (some even taking the trip from the Inner System habs). He hasn't taken the form of anything else than an infomorph ever since Odo's assassination.
Khünbish neOdo (her first name meaning 'Not a human being' in Mongolian) is the first, and only child of the famous co-founders of OH1. A student of her father's ecosystem design approach, she is one of the leading figures in that field on OH1 and nearby Locus. Despite her expertise, she is better known in anarchist networks as one of the minds behind the famous Grisham Station bombing [an Ecologene research station in orbit of Mars, that was completely obliterated; but most of the staff managed to flee the station before the detonation; Ecologene supposedly lost millions in equipment and backup-less research data and specimens] and participated in the so-called Squid Abductions [abductions of prominent Europa bioscience researchers; who were never released or found]. She participated in a number of zero-raids on Jovian Junta facilities, organized by various anarchist networks with the goal to abduct and free zero-slaves working in their habitats. What isn't widely known (of course), she's also a young Firewall sentinel - working under the name of [Siva.].
Blue, a young anarchist-philosopher who continued (or so he thinks) where Odo stopped. He's advocating anti-terrorist currents in the Odoist movement, arguing that the attacks planned by transhumans living in Odoist habs should be stopped or punished by the other members. A strong proponent of nonviolence, his ideas haven't met much response on OH1 but he gathered a numerous clique of supporters on Locus. He's also one of the transhumans using the 'eel-morph', or 'jellyeaters' how they're called on OH1. Created from spliced eel genome, these zero-g eels are a common sight in OH1 fingered corridors, feeding on flocks of jellyfish. This morph design evolved from the ideas of a small number of uplfited eels still living in OH1.
Economy
OH1 is a fully integrated rep economy, with @-rep, e-rep and r-rep being the most common used.
Attitude to outsiders
OH1 is completely open to visiting outsiders. There's no immigration regulation (to the cap of 15,000 biomorphs because more can't be maintained by the current ecosystem) and literally anybody can come in or out. Of course, hypercorp and Jovian Junta spy/saboteurs and other volatile elements are monitored and banned from entry by local terrorist groups or other interested individuals. Considering the close proximity of Locus, the hab residents are used to a large number of new faces just passing through.
Adventure Hooks
An eco-terrorist cell started organizing an attack on Mars planetside habitats, involving atomics. Firewall agents should neutralize the threat by any means necessary...but that won't prove to be an easy task considering that the eco-terrorists are high rep individuals and very respected in the Odoist movement? In the end, it might result in the destruction of the whole hab - a typical Firewall sacrifice of thousands to save millions.
One of the researchers taken in the Squid Abductions managed to escape from his captors and found refuge somewhere in Locus. If he manages to return to Europa, and retell his story that could prove to be a huge destabilizing factor in Outer System political balance. Can the Firewall sentinels catch him before he manages to leave Locus? And if they can, is it really necessary to kill him?
